"t’s a tight venue and we’re building a technical track with two Jetcross log jumps and great viewing for spectators..."Julien Bastien, Head of P1 Jetcross
Around 100 professional and amateur P1 Jetcross riders from 12 countries will be heading to North-Eastern France this weekend when Basse-Ham hosts the Grand Prix of Europe.
This will be the first time that Jetcross has visited Basse-Ham in the department of Moselle as the second round of the 2019 championship takes the racers from La Seyne-sur-Mer on the Mediterranean coast earlier this month to the Pays de Trois Frontieres where France, Luxembourg and Germany all meet. The impressive Basse-Ham leisure centre in collaboration with Thionville Metropolitan area "Portes de France", known as Nautic’Ham, will welcome competitors and spectators for two days of fast and furious action on the River Moselle.
Julien Bastien, Head of P1 Jetcross, explains: “Our international Pro and Amateur Tour this year comprises five events in three countries and I’m confident that racing on the Moselle will deliver a great show. It’s a tight venue and we’re building a technical track with two Jetcross log jumps and great viewing for spectators. I must thank Jerome Dabit from Nautic’Ham and Sofiane Reguieg from Moselle Gliss’, the Thionville and Basse-Ham community authorities and our sponsors for making this event possible.”
The race site will include a Yamaha dedicated pit area for the owners of Yamaha Superjet and EX/EXR WaveRunners competing in the new Yamaha EX/EXR Cup. Each event in this series will operate as a separate competition with trophies being presented on the final day of the race weekend.
The President of Thionville Metropolitan "Portes de France", Pierre Cuny is looking forward to welcoming riders from all over Western Europe to Basse-Ham: “This international event will be the opening highlight of our exciting 2019 season and, located on the banks of the Moselle with high-quality facilities that include a superb marina, Nautic’Ham will be an ideal venue both on-water and on-land for the Grand Prix of Europe.”
In the Pro Tour, the three Poret brothers – Morgan, Jeremy and Mickael– will be looking to repeat their performance in La Seyne-sur-Mer where they filled the top three positions in the Pro Ski JX1 class. “It was a perfect weekend for me – the best way to kick off the season and an amazing feeling to share the podium with my brothers” said Morgan, who finished in top spot. The trio rode the Bullett V3 to success but will be changing to the V4 with a Kawasaki 4 stroke 4 cylinders 1500cc engine for this weekend’s racing.
Joining the starting line-up in Basse-Ham will be two talented Norwegian riders, Stian Schjetlein and Ulrik Berntsen. Competing for Team Kommander/Go Fast Us, both racers come from Bergen and Stian is looking to improve on his performances last season when he took victory in the Belgian round and achieved a podium place in Vichy.
Regarded as the leading stand-up ski series in the world, Jetcross has reinforced P1’s growing presence in Europe after joining its family of marine racing brands in 2016. This season sees new hulls and teams entering the championship, with reigning Pro Tour champion Jeremy Poret seeking to set a new record by winning his sixth title.
